👩💻After 5 years with What a Host, I’ve been reflecting on the role of PR 📰 (and all sorts of organic ways to grow your brand) versus paid ads or paid PR press. While paid ads can drive quick sales 📈, they can’t build a sustainable brand on their own. And paid PR, while it can bring exposure (for sure...), isn't the answer to everything. Here’s why I believe in organic PR👇
1️⃣ Credibility and Trust: Paid PR can lack the authenticity that earned media brings. When content is paid for, it risks being viewed with skepticism, which can undermine the trust customers place in your brand. Organic PR comes from an external source, which makes it more credible and trustworthy.
2️⃣ Quality of Content: Paid PR content is often created with the goal of promoting rather than telling an engaging story. The result? Sometimes the content doesn’t connect well with the audience. Organic PR tends to produce more thoughtful and relevant content, which resonates better with your target market.
3️⃣ Long-Term Brand Building: Relying too much on paid PR can stunt the growth of your brand in the long run. Organic PR helps build lasting relationships and trust with your audience. By being featured in stories, articles, and discussions naturally, you build a brand identity that stands the test of time.
This year, my big bet for What a Host is organic growth, and among other organic bets, I decided to invest time and money in finally hiring a PR agent. I’m SO excited to share that I’ve connected with someone who gets that PR SHOULD NOT be paid (the first one I’ve found who truly understands the game! Can you believe it!?). I’m excited to see where this journey takes us, and I can’t wait to share more soon!
