Nice to e-meet you all! After lurking on LinkedIn for what feels like forever, I’ve finally decided it’s time to share my journey... (the real one… none of those polished “look-how-perfect-my-life-is” stories). This is for anyone who wants to know a little more about me and my rollercoaster of a path.
I am Melanie and my story starts in Argentina, thousands of miles away from the UK, where I spent years running my own marketing, communication, and events agency. I think I’ve been an entrepreneur since I was a kid. My first "business"? A little fashion shop ran from my bedroom window, selling bracelets. My family was, of course, my only customer base, and it was way too easy to make money when my parents were supplying all the materials for free. I thought I had a successful business all figured out until I realised a few year later that I had skipped the part about costs (oops!). But hey, watching my family-clients wear my creations while my cash box filled up was a thrill.
Now, you can check my whole CV on LinkedIn, so I won’t bore you with every detail. Long story short: I owned an agency in Argentina, decided to move to the UK and bet on a 9-to-5 job thinking life was giving me a chance to slow down, and somehow ended up launching What a Host Home, an ecommerce brand with over 200 home accessories. Because why not? I mean, what could go wrong when you already know how stressful it is to manage clients, handle complex decisions, make a business profitable, and juggle everything at once, right? My brain clearly thought: "Hey, let’s do that again!"
I know that LinkedIn is a professional platform but let’s be honest, my personal and professional lives are so interconnected, there’s no way to separate them. Expect a mix of both here. Spoiler alert: there’s a lot of trial, error, and plenty of "what was I thinking?" moments along the way. Trust me, I have at least one of those daily.
Oh, and by the way… I also happen to love wine, good food, and dancing. Just so you know :)
