Welcome back to round two! If you caught my last post, you now know a bit about my winding road from Argentina to the UK. So, let me pick up where I left off.
2020... what a year, right? 🤯 I landed in the UK in January, feeling all motivated and ready to dive into work. Fast forward to March, and... surprise! The world shut down 🚫 Yep, perfect timing! No job, no work permit, and no way to get a foot in the door of the dead events and communication industry. Oh, and I was now financially dependent on the guy I’d moved across the world for (I must really love a challenge, huh?).
My first attempt at finding a job was a phone interview with an Irish guy whose accent I couldn’t even understand 🫠 (let’s just say, it wasn’t my most shining moment). So there I was, jobless and trapped at home 🏠!
But you know what? 💪 Covid turned out to be a strange blessing. It gave me the space to create something new, something that would end up being my little kid, What a Host Home. At first, it was more about keeping myself busy than anything else. I’d worked my whole life, so sitting at home doing nothing? That just didn’t work for me.
👉 The truth is: I was tired of offering services like I had back in Argentina. I mean, selling an intangible service can be exhausting. I’d spent years developing products for other brands and this time I wanted to sell a physical product. Let’s not forget little me, back in the day, selling bracelets through the window at home 👧
SO, in 2021, a year later, I found myself unloading my first batch of home décor products 🚛 with NO clue what I was getting myself into. Sure, I had a plan (I’m a planner at heart), but I knew that once things kicked off, it would be chaos🔥.
🔊 Well, I guess the universe heard me LOUD and CLEAR when I said I wanted to work and stay busy... because girl, did it deliver! I got handed a brand-new business, a lot of sleepless nights🥱, and more challenges than I can count. You wanted to work? There you go!
📝Long story short: things did not go as planned. Big shocker, right? But I adapted, survived, and here I am, still standing! And trust me, A LOT has changed since then... but I’ll dive into that on Friday. Stay tuned for more on my wild ride into the world of "the rollercoaster ride I signed up for… with no seatbelt".
Oh, and did I mention I love wine?🍷 You’re probably going to hear about that too.
