💡 The truth is: starting a brand on your own isn’t easy. It's overwhelming figuring out where to begin when you don’t have a team or structure. That blank page can be intimidating, but once you write that first line, everything starts to take shape.
👉 If you’ve been following my journey, you know I successfully imported my first product line into the UK 🇬🇧 But the next hurdle? Creating a platform to sell them (we'll save marketing for another post. Trust me, it’s a whole chapter 📖).
While my products were stuck in the Suez Canal during the pandemic 🚢, I used the time to build my e-commerce site. Like many entrepreneurs, I chose Shopify, and it was a great decision. With little more than basic knowledge, I set up an account, bought an $80 template 💻, and built the site in about a week.
Looking back, it's amazing how much things have evolved. My eye has improved 🎨, I’ve taken courses, and learned from my mistakes🖖. But none of this would have been possible without that initial trial and error‼️
📸 Once the products arrived in the UK, I finally took photos and uploaded them to the site. Back then, I knew nothing about SEO, so I just wrote product descriptions and uploaded the images. Metadata and optimisations weren’t even on my radar 🤣. And I was ALL READY TO GO LIVE 😎❗
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as the founder of What a Host Home is that you can’t be perfect at everything right away. I’ve learned to manage my anxiety and understand that the process is crucial to the result.
And in five years, I’ll probably look back and feel that what I have today could be improved. But I’m not afraid of that anymore 🤟🙋♀️
For those who know me, you know I teach SCRUM⚡, an agile framework that embraces launching before you feel fully ready. The learning and optimisation happen through experience, and no course or advice can fully prepare you for the reality.
🙆♀️ Of course, things have improved over time. I was able to bring in people to help optimize the website, learned a lot about SEO along the way, and now I hire a photographer for every new collection. So, the credit isn’t entirely mine anymore 💁♀️.
Here’s a video of the very first version of my website 🖥️ 🤯 !!
Maybe it’s my Latin roots 🇦🇷, but I’m never afraid to learn and work hard for what I want.
