How on earth was I going to get those products to the UK 📦⁉️

Good morning, everyone! ☕☀️ Back again to share another chapter of this crazy ride (plus, a much-needed coffee).

If you’ve been following along, I’ve walked you through how I found my suppliers and set up my first product range ‼️(which, spoiler alert, I hardly sell anymore… ) 👉 But now, let’s talk about the next big hurdle: How on earth was I going to get those products to the UK 📦⁉️

👩‍💻 So, once my first collection was under production, it was time to figure out logistics 🚛🚢, a completely new adventure for me. I had officially registered my company with Companies House (It’s cheap and easy), got the certificate, and voilà! I had my company set up legally in the UK 👌🏻🤩

But now came the big question: how was I going to import these products without going broke? 😅 Flying the shipment over was out of the question with those wild shipping costs. And let’s be real, filling a full container on my own? HA! Not quite there yet 😩

And so, once again, trusty Google 🔍 came to the rescue, leading me to Aver Logistics 🚛 For those unfamiliar, companies like this consolidate shipments from various people (just like me), and fill a container together, so we don’t have to 👌🏻 Super handy, but of course, not as cost-efficient as a full container on your own. Still, it worked perfectly for my first steps.

Now, the process sounded simple: 💁‍♀️ get a quote online, make payments, fill out some forms, and boom... they take care of door-to-door delivery, including customs clearance 📋 (a huge relief). But trust me, it was not that smooth. 🗓️ It took me MONTHS to figure out the taxes I had to pay per product. Bureaucracy is real... 😩

🚨And oh boy... nothing ever goes as planned, right? The cargo finally arrived in the UK three months LATER thanks to that famous ship blocking the Suez Canal 🚢⚓ (yes, my container was stuck there too). And let’s not forget that this was mid-Covid, so shipping costs were insane! Back then, containers were costing $10,000 on average 💰, compared to the pre-pandemic average of just $2,000.

🙅‍♀️ But you know what? I went for it anyway. I wasn’t expecting immediate profit, but I believed in the long game.

So here’s a picture of the first shipment back in 2021. My back is still feeling the effects, haha! 📦📦

On Friday, I’ll share what I learned from my experience importing into the UK and some tips for anyone looking to do the same. Stay tuned!
