So, as I mentioned before, I’ve always had the itch to work on something tangible 🙌 🎁 Services? Great, but after years in marketing and communications, I craved a product. Something I could see, touch, and let’s be real, sell 💸. But what? I moved to the UK with no idea of what would work in a market I barely knew.
💭💡 My first big idea: wine tasting boxes 🍷. I’m Argentinian, so naturally, wine runs through my veins. I thought: let’s bundle some cute decor items with mini wine bottles for at-home tastings. Import wine from Argentina, sprinkle in some cosy accessories, and boom, a business idea was born!
🚫 But, reality check… the UK taxes on alcohol are no joke 👎💲. Maintaining wine in tip-top shape? Think expensive fridges, licenses, and a lot of I-am-not-a-millionaire level of investment. So that idea died quicker than a bottle of Malbec at a family dinner.
However, plot twist! The decor items in those bundles were highly profitable 🤑 Cashflow speaking... 💰And there I was, suddenly pivoting to home accessories. First idea: sell tablescapes, a bundles of 3/4 home accessories that worked together aesthetically, helping people host at home without the hassle of sourcing each item separately.
Let’s be clear here: I’m NOT a product designer 😅 Just a Business Developer. Sure, I’ve always had a passion for interiors, but not in a professional way. But here’s the thing: you can learn, even after 30 ‼️ I believe in diving in, even when you don’t have all the skills from the start. I could’ve ended up selling sneakers or T-shirts, but decor it was. And after four years of tables, coasters, and candelabras, I can tell you, I’ve learned a LOT.
Still learning, actually. In fact, people didn’t even like my initial idea of selling tablescapes as bundles! 🤣🫠💔What I thought was a brilliant concept just didn’t resonate. Now I only sell the products individually. Lesson learned (Well… 1 out of a thousand).
👉 Here’s the kicker: getting real, useful info in this e-commerce world is HARD 👎 I’m not saying I’ve got all the answers, but at least I want to share my own bumpy ride and no “get-rich-quick” schemes here. 📖
I’ll dive into the marketing challenges of being a new brand, navigating logistics when selling products online, the complexities of importing into the UK, the different stages of product development, and sharing advice along the way. Just a whole lot of trial, error, and learning🤓.
Oh, and I know it’s early for wine, so I’ll stick to coffee ☕ If you’re a small-medium brand or thinking of jumping into this entrepreneurial chaos, let’s grab a coffee sometime and share some stories 🗣️ Deal? 🥰
Here’s a snapshot of me unloading the first shipment, showcasing how flexible you need to be in steering your ship in a new direction 😂
